Additional Unit Information: Total # of beds in the unit: 12 PACU, 15 Pre-op, 10 Ambulatory. Nurse to patient ratios 2:1 or 1:1 in PACU --- Pre-Op/Ambulatory: 4:1 for all shifts. No Ancillary Staff. Patients range in age mixed from Adults to Geriatrics. Staff works in 8, 10 and 12 hour shifts. Unit patient population: Orthopedic, Urology, Ophthaimology, Head & Neck, Spine, Podiatry, ENT, GYN, Pediatric surgery, Neurosurgery, Prep Open heart cases, ACID and Pacemakers, General surgery. Special Unit Procedures that could cause ethical issues: Depends on what a person considers an ethical issue. Documentation System: Health Connect Electronic Medical Record. Supplemental Staff required to float when necessary. Scrubs RN provides their own blue or green scrubs. The role of the post-anesthesia care unit nurse (PACU nurse) is to provide care for post-operative patients recovering from anesthesia, including general, regional, and local. The PACU RN treats inpatients and outpatients according to their needs, monitoring their vital signs to determine necessary care. (Postoperative nausea is a commonly treated symptom.) Due to the possibility of rapid changes in a patient's physiological condition, PACU RNs are required to administer diligent care via monitoring, assessment, intervention, and continuous reassessment.Required Qualifications1. 2 years of PACU experience required within the past 3 years 2. ICU experience which includes swans experience as well 3. ACLS/BLS/PALS 4.
